Bird Key Yacht Club Exhibition

Evelyn McCorristin Peters, Sherry Hill

Up for a wild time? Don’t miss the October Art Show, “Art from the Mildly Wild Side.” On the walls will be work from Petticoat Painters, Sherri Hill and Evelyn Peters.

A professor at the State College of Manatee-Sarasota, Sherri’s witty art is a whimsical combination of Rene Magritte and Groucho Marx.  With an astonishingly bold palette and compositions that are at once realistic and, phantasmagoric, Evelyn McCorristin Peters depicts natural landscapes and incredible portraits of pets. On the video screen will be mind-blowing work from Ringling College students presented by the head of the Motion Design Department, Professor Ed Cheatham. In the Showcase, there will be Sally Jaret’s collection of vintage jewelry. And on the tables — “Mom’s Home Cooking.”

So come on and get in on the fun! To attend the champagne reception at 6 PM on October 22 and/orreserve a table or a seat for dinner at 7PM , please contact: birdkeyyachtclub@birdkeyyc.com or call Barbara Palma at 941-953-4455 ext 103.

Show runs October 20 - December 5, 2015

Petticoat Painters at Big Arts

Founders Gallery

Artists Reception
5:30 pm, Friday, October 24, 2014

Admission is FREE (no tickets necessary)The Petticoat Painters is one of the oldest, continuously exhibiting women’s art groups in the United States. The group was formed in 1953 to showcase the talents of female artists at a time when women had trouble getting their work exhibited.

Seven women artists participated in their first show held at the gallery of Martha and William Hartman. Those original members selected the name “Petticoat Painters,” thinking it would be a one-time show of their work. The Petticoat Painters recently celebrated their 60th anniversary with a show at Ringling’s Selby Gallery in Sarasota.

The group is limited to twenty Sarasota-area artists, and prospective members have to be nominated by a member. They are carefully considered after screening for artistic integrity and exhibition experience to determine if they will be invited into the group.
