Duke is a resident of Vintage Paws Sanctuary. He was diagnosed with oral melanoma in July 2014. He had surgery to remove the growth but they did not get good margins. His melanoma returned and he was scheduled for surgery in December.

Unfortunately when they prepped him for surgery, a much larger mass was found. He was referred to a specialist, Dr. Cavanaugh of Specialized Veterinary Services in Ft. Myers, Florida. Dr. Cavanaugh was successful in removing the growths from Duke's mouth but the cancer had already spread to an adjacent lymph node (which was removed).

Dr. Cavanaugh feels the best outcome for Duke would be the melanoma vaccine. This vaccine is every two weeks for four vaccines and then is followed up every six months with a booster for the life of the dog. The vaccine has little to no side-effects. The initial four vaccines are $2000.  SVS gives a 30% discount to non-profits so the total would be $1400. Dr. Cavanaugh feels Duke would get anywhere from 6 months to up to two years with the vaccine. Please help us help Duke. He deserves it. Thank you! Click on Duke's picture or the widget below to donate!
